Russia Adds Recycling Fee on Domestic Automakers – Coming Soon to the U.S.?
The Russians put a recycling fee on any new imported cars but exempted new cars made in Russia or its Customs Union Partners Belarus and Kazakhstan. Japan, the EU, and the United States complained about the practice to the World Trade Organization. To fix the problem, Russia has decided to impose the recycling fee on all new cars that way the misery can be spread equally. A fair question to ask is how soon we might see a recycling fee added to cars here. Read more about the new Russian auto recycling fee.
Metalico Buys PA Auto Recycler Furlow North East Auto, Inc.
Former owner Tim Furlow will stay on and Metalico (NYSE MEA) will continue to operate the pick and pull yard. The terms of the sale were not disclosed but included real estate and Furlow’s junk car and parts inventory. Metalico has been on a yard buying spree and continues to aggressively seek yards to buy in Western NY and NW Pennsylvania to supply its shredder in Buffalo, NY, according to a Recycler Today story.

New NC Vehicle Tracking System Results in Recovery of 33 Stolen Vehicles in First Month
Travis, Ward, President of Recycling Association of NC, gives high marks to the rollout of the new system designed to alert yard owners that an older vehicle that a seller brings them without a title is stolen. Using the system takes a few extra minutes but protects the operator if the vehicle later turns out to be stolen.
