Larry offered some interesting thoughts on the power of language to shape perceptions about the auto recycling industry. As he writes, “I strongly believe that we are living in an era where words count more than ever.” His article is a good read in the Illinois recyclers’ newsletter. As he says, it may take a while for consumers to stop using the J-word in online searches, but we can, and should, do our part to change perceptions.

Pacific Auto Salvage Ownership Stays in the Family
The NAPA Valley business is staying in the family. John Acevedo is “dabbling in retirement” and turning the day-to-day over to his son, Willie. Willie has added some new tools to the business, including Pinnacle, a system that John calls “the Lamborghini” of yard management software. Mysterious Booms on East Side of Flint Blamed on Scrap Yards or Meth Labs
Some things just make you go Hmmmm. Flint, MI, residents have been puzzled by the source of loud booming noises coming from the East Side of Flint. Thus far, the mystery remains unsolved after local scrap yards debunked the social media theory that it was exploding gas tanks from cars being crushed. The other popular explanations: meth labs exploding and flatulence from the morbidly obese. Hat tip to Jeremy Allen of MLive.
Car Crushes Man During Theft Attempt at North Carolina Salvage Yard
Daniel Yount, 28, appears to have been crushed while attempting to remove a catalytic converter from an elevated vehicle at Auto Parts of Shelby in Cleveland County, NC. His friend, Dawn Bradley, who made the 911 call in the early hours of Sunday morning has been charged with larceny and trespassing and may face additional charges, according to a staff and wire report on ShelbyStar.com. The case is still under investigation. Read the story of this alleged auto parts theft gone wrong. It’s just better to shop when the doors are open.
